    Sewickley Academy is dedicated to being a community that represents 和 celebrates different backgrounds, 人才, 利益, 和 divergent yet informed opinions.

    Our goal is to elevate an inclusive community that allows all to feel welcomed. We firmly insist that every person is an important member of our community 和 that their voices should be shared.

    We are intentional about creating systems 和 spaces that make this happen for our students, 教师, 和父母. An inclusive curriculum, diverse clubs, student-led opt-in series, 和 S.E.E.D. cohort groups for 教师 和 staff create positive protocols for difficult conversations.

    多样性 is who we are. It is quantitative. 多样性 is expressed in myriad forms, including 比赛 和 种族, 性别 和 性别 identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, 语言, 文化, national origin, faith traditions, 年龄, 和 (dis)ability status.
  • 股本

    股本 is characterized by the absence of bias, 骚扰, 和 discrimination related to diverse identities. 股本 promotes a sense of belonging 和 assures access to those resources each person needs to ensure 年龄ncy 和 reach their full potential. 股本 is not equality; it is not about everyone getting the same thing; rather, it is about each person’s getting what each needs.

Making Spaces for Difficult Conversations

Sewickley Academy also supports student learning through balanced voices in curriculum 和 herit年龄 assemblies. We are intentional about offering spaces for difficult conversations. We believe students from PreK-12  should have access to a vigorous academic program that is wholly intertwined with social-emotional learning, 赋权, 和 anti-bias 语言.

Spaces mean everything to building an inclusive learning community from Responsive Classrooms in the Lower School, The Social Institute advisory program in the Middle School, 和 advisories 和 student-driven opt-ins (spaces for current hot topics) in the Senior School.

The Senior School has a unique 和 dedicated 股本 和 包容 Center that prioritizes student planning.

Assemblies 和 library resources are tailored to meet curiosity 和 best 年龄-appropriate practices.

D.E.I. Assemblies, 主题演讲 & 资源

The Academy believes that students should grow their confidence in leadership training in preparation for the world beyond the Academy. Students in all three divisions have leadership roles in diversity. The Middle School Student 多样性 Club, the Senior School Student 多样性 领导 Council, 和各种 cultural clubsaffinity spaces all offer a space to practice 年龄ncy, confidence, 和 voice. 

Sewickley Academy believes in creating spaces for diverse representation to share at the Academy. Herit年龄 month assemblies throughout the year build-in reading connections 和 keynotes:

D.E.I. Professional Development

The entire 教师 和 staff at Sewickley Academy may opt in to multiple workshops throughout the year that streamline cultural competence 和 语言. 

These workshops focus on the best inclusive practices related to 年龄, 比赛, 种族, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, 性别, 性别 identity, ability (mental 和 physical), 和 other cultural identifiers.

In addition to intentional workshops around the various cultural identifiers 和 experiences, the Academy recognizes that it takes an in-depth discovery into equitable 和 inclusive concepts. We are committed to the practical application of addressing injustices.

Community members who identify as BIPOC, 同性恋群体, 和 other identities have experienced many inequities throughout time.

We recognize diversity enhances any learning environment 和 is a part of the academic experience, 和 therefore we make space to emb比赛 all differences.
